So many different funerary practices!
I thought three different examples were pretty cool.
First, the Viking burial that included decapitated horses seemed super interesting to me. I am intruiged as to why the horses were decapitated (not surprisingly I imagine). Second, the idea of hanging bodies off of a cliff also interests me! Last...endocannibalism practiced in certain groups of indigenous groups in the Amazon. They partially cremate the bodies of their dead, crush their bones, and make a drink out of the crushed bones. The drink is consumed by family members, close friends, and other members of the group. The (understood) idea behind this is that rather than burying their dead in the cold ground, they are being incorporated to always be part of those who survive. Although the idea of participating in this seems a little scary...I think the meaning of it is kind of awesome. As an aside -- my friend of mine decided she'd like to have her body thrown in the ocean. Kind of cool.
Happy Friday!
